Education & Outreach

Fire Safe Home Visit

For residents of Soquel living in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) to receive free recommendations to make your home firesafe by increasing defensible space around your house.

Residents Assistance Program

Once we receive funding, we will be offering assistance to residents who are unable to clear their property. To qualify for this program, you must be physically unable to clear your property and have no other person to assist in the clearance, or are financially unable to hire a contractor.

5th Grade Education Program

We are in process of organizing a "Wildfire in the Santa Cruz Mountains" education program for our local schools. The program is based on 5 concept lessons and will be introduced during the 2011-2012 school year.

Risk Assessment
It is our goal to provide the residents of Soquel with an in-depth Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). It is one of the more important means of reducing risk to communities and ecosystems of wildfire. The CWPP enables a community to plan how it will reduce the risk of wildfire and prioritizes the risks through collaboration between the community, fire agencies and local government by identifying:
  • At risk areas
  • Risk/response capacities
  • Mitigation strategies/fuels/structures/policies
  • Action recommendations and implementations/timeframes/resources
  • Monitoring plan
